    On October 12, 2004, one of the most anticipated releases of my adolescence hit stores. I had played the demos out, watched every video, and I waited for my main man John Nolan to step out of the shadow that was Taking Back Sunday and put out his own artistic vision, the self-titled “Straylight Run”. I can’t claim that the album was all that I had hoped for, but it delivered on plenty of levels.

    Coming out of the microcosm that is college can be startling. In fact, it should be down right frightening. For the majority of us, the bubble is all we know on a regular basis. We’re ferried from grade to grade, school to school in little societies where age is the most common of denominators. Conditioned, we begin to expect similar answers to standard questions, and we in turn slowly bend and conform to return the expected answers. Which is why at the age of 23 I found myself taken aback and confused as I built up a rapport with the 28 year-old girl (woman?) on the bus seat to my left.

    Since the IRS gives us a solid three and a half months to get our financial papers in order, the same amount of time should be granted for a matter much more important: my top ten albums of last year.  As always, each of these albums was originally released in the calendar year.
